The Thermo Scientific Orbitrap Elite is a high-performance hybrid mass spectrometer. It combines the novel high-field Orbitrap analyzer with the latest dual-pressure linear ion trap, the Thermo Scientific Velos Pro, increasing speed, sensitivity, and dynamic range. The Orbitrap Elite has a resolving power greater than 240,000 FWHM (Full Width at Half Maximum). It offers multiple fragmentation techniques: CID (collision-induced dissociation), HCD (higher-energy collisional dissociation), and optionally ETD (electron-transfer dissociation). It also allows for parallel MS and MSn (sequential mass spectrometry) analysis. The system is especially useful when dealing with complex and low abundance samples across a variety of applications, including proteomics lipidomics. The hardware specifications include the Velos Pro Dual-Pressure Linear Trap, whose Ion Max API Source enhances both sensitivity and ruggedness. It also features an S-Lens, Transfer Ion Optics, and a vacuum system differentially. The Orbitrap Mass analyzer features hardware capabilities such as gas-free multipole ion transfer optics, high-transmission ion transfer optics, active temperature control with a Peltier element, 14-bit signal digitization, and more. The Orbitrap Elite can perform a wide variety of experiments, from in-depth discovery-based experiments to comprehensive qualitative/quantitative experiments. The availability of multiple fragmentation techniques offers a new level of versatility and performance for the most challenging research applications.
